It was a quiet this morning as we got up and made it downstairs for breakfast. The ladies at our motel have been very generous. They are letting us use the banquet room to eat in. As we arrived at the worksite today a work crew was already at work on the gymnasium for the church. We had our first injury. No, it wasn't me (Holly). One of the youth stepped on a nail. Luckily we have a nurse along. She got it cleaned up and he's doing fine. I think he enjoyed all the attention. The Hackleburg High School cheerleaders had practice in the church tent today. It made me really stop and think about what the kids and youth of this community have lost. Remember, their school is going to be 49 trailers connected by covered walkways. The schools will not be finished for 2 years. They finished the school year in a baptist church and a methodist church that had minimal damage. They will probably be having practice at the churches new gym. It will have children's ministry on one end and youth ministry on the other and the gym in the middle.
We had about 50 people from the community (including those working in the communty) join us for lunch today. Pastor Knowles and his family were among them.
The youth have worked VERY hard today. They tore out the stage from the sanctuary, took down the remaining walls of a couple rooms, built the wall for part of the sanctuary, picked up more nails, hauled more debris, swept some more. We added two to our Team today. Karl & Sharon Newcomb arrived after lunch. Just in time to help the youth raise the wall. We now have 42.
Twenty-seven of our group went out to eat with Pastor Knowles and his family at a Mexican restaraunt. We enjoyed a great time of fellowship. We also celebrated John & Denice's nephew, Jake Fliehman's, birthday. His birthday is actually Friday, but who can pass up celebrating a birthday at a restaraunt with a bunch of people.
