It's cool this morning. There is a nice breeze. I found out that some of the people that came to eat yesterday are from a church in Tennessee that are here working in the town also. They had 4 vans full that came yesterday. The crew that is working on the school has been coming over too. They emptied the dumpster this morning. It's a good thing. We'll probably have it loaded again before the day is over. Jack's dump trailer was still loaded with trash from yesterday. They unloaded it into the dumpster. Three days into the work and it's running like a well-oiled machine. Everyone seems to know what needs to be done and does it. The youth kept busy this morning. It reminds me of a beehive. There is so much going on, it is amazing to watch. The men are great about directing the youth in how to help and what needs to be done. If anyone needs help, all they have to do is ask one of the youth and they are always willing. Some of the girls decorated the windows of the vehicles before we left Sunday. "We love our youth" is on some of them. We definitely Love Our Youth! They have been awesome this week and so much fun to work with. These trips are great for our church in that not only are we being the hands and feet of Christ, we are building relationships with our church family. It is so neat to get to know others in the church better.
We took a few of the youth over to the high school today. I think this makes it more real to them. The school has not been touched since the tornado came through. There are lockers, concrete blocks, electrical wires, books and everything else piled in the central hallway. As we looked in the classroom windows we saw so much destruction but on the wall of one room, the magazines were still in their rack, in another there were still books on the shelves. There are some pictures below of the school. I also have a video of some of the girls after we went to the high school.
More walls were framed and erected today. John & Denice and the youth pastor from the church took all the youth on a tour to see more of the destruction in the area. Tonight the adults are on their own and the youth will be going out to eat and to the Youth Service at Hackleburg Community Church.
